Background

Overview

I’ve had the pleasure of working with the incredible marketing team at Screen Ireland for the past 7 years. As one of my key clients, I’ve grown alongside the brand, particularly during its transition from the Irish Film Board and rebranding in 2020 (branding led by the talented team at Boys + Girls). I was the lead designer when we won the initial tender.

Later, as the project went through a retendering process, I led from a design perspective as Head of Design. This retender focused on addressing the challenge of multiple websites, such as Screen Skills, which was designed to support emerging talent by providing a space for courses and funding. The existing website had become outdated, particularly in catering to two key user groups: industry professionals and the general public. My role was to lead the UX and UI teams to meet these key objectives for Screen Ireland.

In recent years, I also designed the Shorts Player, a VOD service promoting short films created by Irish talent. This platform allows the general public to view these films while also enabling the marketing team to curate collections and promote them at prestigious festivals like Cannes.

Additionally, during my time with Screen Ireland, I developed a design system for third parties to implement across their platforms. This system was notably used by Usheru to style their custom-built "Where to Watch" platform.

Looking ahead

In 2024, as Design Director, I have been focusing on making the brand more accessible online. With a long history of using printed booklets to showcase their film catalogue, I played a key role in driving the transition towards a fully accessible digital brochure for Screen Ireland. Together with some brilliant accessibility champions at Kooba, we developed a concept and proactively presented the idea to the client. We have now piloted a 2025 brochure that will be fully interactive, without relying on third-party tools, and will integrate with other Screen Ireland platforms such as the Shorts Player and Where to Watch.

Team

A brand of this scale wouldn’t have been successful without my incredible creative team, accessibility champions, and talented developers at Kooba. Over the past 8 years, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with a group of "can-do" people who made this project an absolute dream to work on.
